In this world of Spam email, email marketing is getting a bad
name. Fortunately, if it is done right, there is still a
lot of life in this old strategy.
The primary goal is gaining the consumer's trust. A recent
Forrester Research survey found that while trust plays a role in
all forms of advertising, it has particular importance to e-mail
marketers. Consumers responding to this survey indicated
their trust level in different forms of advertising. The
top of their list?
- Word of mouth from friends and family
- Branded web sites
- Opt-in E-Mail
- Text ads on mobile phones
A bit surprising given all of the anti-spam sentiment, but
encouraging. Again, the key is to do it right.
Doing it right
The key to email marketing in the above list is "Opt-In".
If your mailing list is not composed of opt-in addresses, your
email is spam. Not a good thing given today's anti-spam
laws. So, the first step is to start building a mailing
list from all of your current marketing tracks and from your
website.
